A Fresh Start, One Gentle Step at a Time: The Thimble & Tansy Home Reset

This year has brought its share of challenges. Between a new asthma diagnosis and surgery for breast cancer, my days have looked different. Slower. Tender.

I’ve found myself needing to reevaluate everything—from my energy levels to my home routines. Once upon a time, I could clean the entire house in a single morning. Now? I need a new strategy. And maybe you do, too.

I’ve never been one to follow a strict cleaning “system,” and the endless online suggestions can feel overwhelming.

But what I do want is a home that feels cozy, clean, and calm—especially during seasons when life feels anything but. So I’m embracing a softer, steadier approach. One space at a time. One month at a time.

And I’d love for you to join me.

We’re not aiming for Pinterest-perfect. We’re aiming for functional spaces—rooms that work for real life and spark a little joy when I walk into them. I want to create a home that feels like a soft place to land. A space that makes mehappy.

🧹 The Thimble & Tansy Gentle Home Reset

Each month, I’ll choose one area to clean, organize, and refresh—not to perfection, but toward peace. It’s not about having a picture-perfect home. It’s about reclaiming comfort, finding your rhythm again, and making space for what matters.

First Steps

I originally mapped out a full three-month plan to tackle our master suite—but real life had other ideas.

April filled up beautifully with moments that mattered—exploring Heritage Village and the Green Thumb Plant Show with my husband as well as having honest conversations about what truly needs to happen next at home. We also talked about my health, my energy, and how important it is to move forward gently.

The truth is, we have too much stuff in this house. Before I can make cozy spaces, I need to make space itself.

boxes and boxes filled with stuff....keep or toss?

Instead of a neat three-month plan, I’m giving myself permission to start with a more foundational reset:
sorting, discarding, donating, and selling what’s weighing us down.

May Focus: Clearing Clutter and Preserving Memories

Rather than jumping straight into a full room makeover, May will center around two simple but meaningful goals:

  • Tackle the clutter: One small space at a time. No rush, no pressure—just steady progress.
  • Start sorting memories: Begin the slow, sweet process of organizing our family photos—preserving what matters, sharing the best, and letting go of what no longer serves a purpose.

Sorting through our photos won’t be a rushed project. It will be a gentle, ongoing task—one that brings our memories into the light where they belong.

The Heart of This Reset

  • Lighten the load: Create breathing room by clearing out what no longer serves us.
  • Honor my energy: Recognize that healing is happening, and move forward with kindness toward my body.
  • Focus on what matters: Finish spaces that bring real joy now—not someday.

This is a different journey than I first imagined, but it’s no less beautiful.

And maybe, if you’re in a season of reevaluating too, you’ll find comfort knowing you’re not alone.

One step at a time. One space at a time. One gentle reset at a time.
